Gillio release new range of contrasting pastel colours for their Compagna model range.

It was back in May 2013 that Mella introduced us to the Gillio brand that she had discovered in a local shop in Antwerp. In July that year, I got to review a small range of Gillio Amica organisers.

The colours in the range were fairly safe colours back then, quite traditional I suppose. These colours are still available and still sell well today. They also had some classical contrasting colour combinations (black/orange, dark brown/gold) more were added in the same spirit: grey/orange, black/red, etc.

In November 2013 Mella organised a meet up in Antwerp and Brussels and Gillio showed off a new range of leathers and colours during an evening event.

In March 2014 I went with Tom and Mella to Florence, I got to see and help launch some new colours in the Mia Cara range. These included contrasting colours and contrasting stitching as well.

With each launch the colours have been getting more and more adventurous, the new colours have been proving more and more popular too.

In March of 2015 Gillio launched a range of pastel colours.

Likewise these colours have proved popular too.

In July this year they launched a new variation of these new pastel colours. As you can see they take the range of colour combinations another stage further.

With the pastels they went for a more ‘ton sur ton’ combo of different shades of the same colour (darker and lighter pink; blue; purple etc) as well as some matching tones like yale blue and grey.

New colour combinations are either a Gillio team decision (they try to make all of the decisions together at the office when they can!) as well as suggestions from their customers they receive either by mail or discuss online.

A quick over view of the Compagna design if you aren't familiar with it.

The Compagna in medium size, features a full width back pocket which will take A5 size paper or A4 folded in half easily. This pocket is lined with a soft synthetic leather.

Looking at the interior. On the inside front cover, there is an expanding vertical pocket. On the face of this pocket there is a full height vertical slip pocket and a smaller business card pocket at the base. Behind this whole section is a full height and depth secretarial pocket. The pockets are again lined with a synthetic leather material.

On the inside back cover, there are five credit card slotted pockets and a leather elasticated pen loop which matches the interior colour of the organiser. Behind this section there is also another secretarial pocket.

The silver rings fitted to this review samples are 25 mm internal diameter. The empty organiser with matching leather fly leaf weighs approximately 285 grams. The organiser is also supplied with a Gillio ball point pen the colour of this varies across the range.

You can read my earlier review on the medium Gillio Compagna model here.

So looking at each one of the new colours individually.

  1. Do we know whether the leather fly leaves are available separately yet?
I remember hearing this possibility mentioned, and I'm sure they would be very popular.

    1. I don't believe they are yet. They are available from Van der Spek in their range of leathers. They also do zip pocket ones too.

  2. Such beautiful colors. I especially like the Yale blue.

  3. The paler colors are lovely, but my heart would skip 4 beats if they got any ink marks. That said, a dark brown with the lotus pink interior has me fighting to keep from hitting the buy button.
