  1. Just wanted to let people know a great pen that I have discovered. I prefer to use the week-on-one-page diary format and as a consequence I need a fine pen. I have discovered the Pilot G-Tec C4 Microtip 0.4mm Rollerball , this has a 0.4mm tip that writes a 0.2mm line. The pen writes very smoothly and doesn't "blob", however its not waterproof. As an added benefit it doesn't have any bleed through. What is your favourite fine pen?

    1. My personal favorite pen (I use a Wo2P with very tiny boxes to write in) is the Sakura Pigma Micron 01, which writes with a .25mm line. I like it because the ink is waterproof and archival quality - a necessity since I keep my planners for years!

It isn't a rollerball though (some people are very picky). I'd say the most similar pen type I've found is the Sharpie pen.

    2. Staedtler pigment liner 0.3. It doesn't bleed through moleskine paper and is waterproof. I use it for drawing and writing. Love it. The only problem is that it is very flat at both ends so it is difficult to get into a pen loop.

  2. The Pilot Metropolitan has a nice fine line.

    1. It does! Or, it did. I think it's been discontinued.

  4. Whilst having a clear out I discovered my old Winchester 4CLF 1/2 filofax. I was surprised to find it so difficult to find any reference to these slimmer than normal models. I bought it around 1985 and used it for a number of years when I worked in the film and tv industry. What are your thoughts on this model? I always liked the more compact style as it could fit in an inside jacket pocket if necessary. I will be listing it on ebay soon btw.

    1. These are a very nice compromise between a standard and slimline size, combined with the reassuring Winchester form. What colour did you opt for back then?

    2. Yes, black. The rings are a half inch (12mm), so quite small really, but takes the standard sized inserts.

    3. A little known fact in this area is that Winchester was at one time offered with 1/4" rings too - even more compact than your 1/2" version. This would make it the same capacity as a slimline, although I guess a bit thicker overall because of the extra leatherwork that the Winchester model has.

    4. Did the 3CL or 3KL models have names, like Winchester?

    5. They were named Slimline, so descriptive rather than imaginative.

  5. Is it slimmer than the more modern Guildford Slimline then Donald? I use mine for recording my horse racing bets and statistics, having modified one of Ray's templates. It doesn't necessitate a binder with larger rings, and is consequently easier to carry.

  6. I'm a Filofax addict who has recently discovered Philofaxy - and I'm loving hearing about other people's addiction! I'd love some jazzy dividers, but I'm most uncreative. Does anyone know of any good sources for them? Thanks for all your hard work on the blog, Steve.

  7. @Shaz, I'm kinda new also. I made my own dividers and it was super easy. Find some scrapbook paper card stock in a pattern you like and use the dividers that came with your Filofax as a template. Trace, Cut (with a paper cutter if you have one, I can't cut a straight line no matter how hard I try, Punch :)

  8. Hi. Anyone know what size the rings are in the cross a5 binders? Thanks.

    1. I'm fairly confident that they are 25mm same as the Classic which is the name this model later became.

    2. Thanks Steve. Dissapointed though. Was hoping they were 30mm.
